Love Letter

My body went numb.

The peace I felt melted away, and my body began to tense up. In the midst of celebrating Ava’s life, the grief and guilt I felt dwindled away.

But yet, here it is again looking me dead in my face.

Though, the grief and guilt I feel are over betraying my best friend.

I laid there in a hollow slumber. My head was spinning from the alcohol I consumed that evening, and my thoughts were haunted by Ty’s perfect lips meeting every inch of my body. It was probably the alcohol heightening my senses because I was in a trance, reliving every touch and every kiss.

His hands were reaching to my chin, pulling me close to taste my lips. His arms pressed against me as he wooshes me into the air and gently positions me on my back.

Reliving the feeling of him first entering me was a blessing and a curse. GOD! The shit felt so good, and forget everything else because the way he kissed on my neck and twisted me sideways to trail down my spine with his tongue was enough to send me to the moon. His lips alone made me scream out for him. The way he caressed my body made me fall in love with him all over again.

The arousing sensation he gave me, made me forget that I was in bed with my best friend’s boyfriend.

“Haley… Haley, lift up.”

My eyes crept open, and I heard Bel whispering to me.

“Someone’s at the door.”

“Shh, you’ll wake everyone! Someone’s at the door. Let me up.”

“No, no. Stay asleep. I’ll get it.”

I was too exhausted and frankly still too wasted to speak to anyone at the door, but my guilt consumed me, so generosity towards my best friend was inevitable.

I stumbled to the front door, struggling to aim my hand at the lock. After focusing my eyes and hands, I got the door open.

 My eyes bulged.

“What are you doing here?”

“I’ve been calling you!”

I pushed him out the doorway and closed the door behind me.

“What do you want, Ty?”

“What’s your problem? Why are you snappy?”

“We just can’t do this right now. This is Bel’s house.”

“I’m not here for that. We have a problem.”

“What are you talking about?”

“After you left, someone came to your house. I thought it was you. I thought you forgot some…”

His deep Brasky voice stimulated parts that it shouldn’t have, but I quickly corrected myself– reminding myself that I’m supposed to be frustrated with him.

“Wait, why didn’t you leave, Ty?”

“STOP. You knew what was happening when I put you on that bed. So stop. You’re acting like a child when it’s not about that right now, Haley! You’re in danger!”

“What!? Who was at the door? What are you talking about?”

“There was an envelope. I already read it. Here.”

He handed me the envelope and on the front of it read “H.I.B.”

I opened it and pulled a folded paper out.

“Haley Isla Burrows,

I want to start by giving you my condolences. Ava spoke highly of you, so I know you two were close. The circumstances are unfortunate, and I wish things did not have to end the way they did for Ava, but they did.

Nether-less, I would like to have a sit-down with you. I watched you walk in and out of Ava’s home earlier and was taken by you. We’ve met only once, but I did not notice the beauty of you until now.

Understand that this is not a request, I will provide you with detail on our meeting location in due time.

-Mr. Hemp”

My eyes blurred after reading. I did everything strategically, how does he know my name. How does he know where I live?

I looked up at him. My eyes swarmed with tears.

“What did he do?! He killed AVA!… Ty?! What just happened?”

Crying and hyperventilating, I couldn’t fathom everything at once and my eyes blacked out.

“Help! Help!”

“Someone come help!”

The darkness faded, and I saw Ty’s blurred face over me.

“Open your eyes, Haley!”

My body was limp, and I felt Ty’s heart beating as he carried me inside.

“What the hell, Ty?!”

“She just went down, Bel. We have to call someone.”

“No, she’s okay. She’s Haley! She’s okay!”

“She’s been under too much stress, Bel.”

I fought to focus on the faces surrounding me.

One… Three.. Two… Four… No, there are three.

I kept trying to count the faces around me, my mind was going crazy, and all I could think was, “Focus Haley! Focus.”

Consciousness escaped me and blackness took over.

“She’s waking up!”

I couldn’t make out the voice. I heard beeping all around me.

“Where am I?”

“You’re in the hospital, Ms. Burrows.”

“You fainted, and we’re waiting on your scans now.”

“Scans? What’s wrong with me?”

“We just want to be sure that you didn’t damage anything when you hit the ground. Your friend here said you went down pretty hard.”

“My friend?”

“Haley, me.”

I watched the nurse cheeks widen and trailed my eyes to where Ty’s voice was coming from.

“You have a great friend Ms. Burrows; he’s been here the whole time… Regarding your health, you are fine as of now. Though your blood pleasure is elevated and it seems you’ve suffered from a panic attack. If your scans come back clean, you’ll be free to go, but I recommend you get some much-needed rest.”

I plastered the widest smile and tried to correct my vision enough to examine her name tag. “Thank you, Ms… (looks at name tag)… Ms. Jackie.”

After the nurse left the room, Ty bent over and kissed my forehead. Denying his affection was the logical decision, but it was as if my body had been waiting for this recognition from him for forever.

“You scared me.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t know what happened.. the letter.. it..”

“Hey, Hey, don’t! I will take care of it. You’ll be okay.”

“Where is Bel?”

“I had her stay at the house with the girls. We don’t need them knowing more than they already do.”

His hand grazed over mine, gripping it compassionately. I felt the desperation through the palm of his hand. I could tell that he needed.. that he wanted me to be okay more than anything. With the sweetest touch, he ran his fingers through my hair.

“I’m glad you’re up, Haley.”

“Me too. We just have to solve this Brandon Hemp problem.”
